The Knights of Columbus is the world's largest Catholic family fraternal service organization with well over 1,800,000+ dedicated Catholic men who are Knights in over 13,000 councils.  Of these numbers, we also make up greater than 2,700 assemblies with about 298,000 4th degree Knights. This group of Catholic men provides it's members and their families with volunteer opportunities in service to the Catholic Church, their communities, families and young people.

Commentary on being a Knight

On Easter weekend, my KC council was running a recruitment drive. One of the prospective Brother Knights asked, " Who are the Knights?' It got me thinking...

Who are the Knights? Some examples I know are:

• They are the ushers, lectors, communion distributors, CCD and RCIA leaders, and choir members in the parish,
• A Knight is the retired man who plays golf everyday after daily Mass and mows the parish grass in the afternoon,
• They are seminarians, deacons, priests and bishops serving God's people,
• A Knight is the guy who is homebound due to illness, but serves his council and parish by distributing the daily prayer requests to his very extensive email list,
• Knights are the young family men who help out the council whenever they can,
• He's a member of a local motorcycle club which does quarterly "poker runs" for local charity,
• They are the spaghetti cooking, hot dog cart working, bingo calling, fund raising en supporting the local charities a dollar at a time,
• The Knights are the guys marching in the 1st of July parade dressed in black tuxedo, cape and chapeau in 100 degree temperatures,
• They are the men who bring care baskets to the families of Brother Knights who have passed on to their reward,
• They are all members of an organization, 1.7 million+ strong that proudly and publicly proclaims allegiance to the Holy Father, an unyielding pro-life stance and a strong devotion to Mary and her rosary.

In summary, the Knights are men from all walks of life who are called to serve their Church, Families and Communities according to the gifts given them by God.

How to Join
Membership in the Knights of Columbus is open to practicing Catholic men in union with the Holy See, who are at least 18 years old. A practicing Catholic is one who lives up to the Commandments of God and the precepts of the Church. Application blanks are available from any member of the Knights of Columbus and at the back of the Church by the entrance.
